Reask partners with Howden Re to strengthen climate risk modelling in Europe

Camille Charluet

We’re excited to share some news: Reask is partnering with Howden Re, one of the leading names in reinsurance broking and analytics. Together, we’re working to give insurers in the UK and France a clearer picture of the risks created by today’s changing climate.

Why this matters for insurers

Insurers across Europe are feeling the strain from emerging perils like severe winter storms and subsidence. These events have become more frequent and more damaging, often pushing loss ratios into double digits. On top of that, high retentions are making the financial impact even sharper.

The challenge with traditional models

The problem is that most traditional models still lean heavily on the past, but with climate change, history isn’t always a reliable guide. That’s where this partnership comes in.

A forward-looking approach

By combining Reask’s climate-driven hazard modelling with Howden Re’s expertise in emerging peril frameworks (plus local data from meteorological institutes), insurers get a view of risk that’s forward-looking, realistic, and better suited to today’s volatility.

This joint approach also supports more innovative reinsurance solutions including parametric and aggregate covers that can help insurers manage earnings swings and bring new capacity into the market.

What our teams say

“This partnership reflects our commitment to bringing forward-looking climate science into the insurance market,” said Jamie Rodney, CEO of Reask. “By working with Howden Re, we’re helping insurers better understand and manage the volatility created by a changing climate.”

Tim Edwards, Head of International Analytics at Howden Re, added:

“These models enable our clients to benefit from innovative techniques that better reflect their true exposure. We already see that they can help attract new capacity to protect cedents against the volatility created by climate-driven weather and subsidence events. We look forward to partnering with Reask and continuing to bring innovative solutions to the market.”

Looking ahead

We’re looking forward to what we can build together and to giving insurers the tools they need to stay resilient as the climate continues to shift.
